It’s rare to come across a band that delivers consistently with every release, but anyone who listens to Say Anything has the privilege to say they’ve found that band. Say Anything’s latest CD, a self-titled, 45-minute chunk of bliss for your ears, is yet another home run. The new mental state of front man Max Bemis provides lyrical themes fans have yet to hear, although the singer still bears all about love, loss, and religion. “Hate Everyone,” the record’s single, is an ironically poppy song about the faults everyone has. Though the song could’ve been easily interchanged with others that are just as powerful such as “Eloise” or “Less Cute,” it definitely gives listeners the right idea about the record, which is much more mainstream than past releases. Musically, the band has blended a few genres on this collection. When given a listen one can hear alternative rock, indie, pop and even a little R&B via “Do Better.” The addition of drummer Cody Linder’s vocals adds a depth to songs that was not there previously. Overall, Say Anything has not disappointed with this record and hopefully, for the sake of the fans, the band will continuously evolve throughout the future.
