The Color Morale’s debut album, We All Have Demons, is predictable.
However, it shouldn’t be placed in the back burner just yet.
Lead vocalist Garret Rapp carries the album with his smooth transitions from clean harmonies to ravenous growling.
“Humannequin” and “When One Was Desolate” feature upbeat and catchy choruses, encouraging listeners to fight their inner struggles, or so called “demons.”
Ramon Mendoza and John Bross’s aggressive guitar playing adds texture and timbre to songs like “I, the Jury” and “Close Your Eyes and Look Away.”
However, such rich harmonies become tedious when repeated song after song.
In fact, if it weren’t for the two-second breaks in between tracks, their album just may be the longest track in history.
The most diverse song on the album, “Manumission,” is also the shortest. Distortion makes it uniquely soothing; but just as you’re starting to enjoy it, it’s over.
Still, We All Have Demons has enough hooks and breakdowns to keep listeners head banging all the way to the show.
